Billy Joel (born William Martin Joel) May 9, 1949 is an American singer-songwriter and pianist.
Commonly nicknamed the "Piano Man", he has been making music since the 1960s, releasing critically acclaimed
albums throughout the '70s, '80s and '90s. Born in the Bronx, New York, and raised on Long Island, New
York (both places which have heavily influenced his songs), Joel took part in two short-lived bands, The Hassles and
Attila, before beginning a solo career in 1971 with his first solo release, Cold Spring Harbor. In 1972, Joel grabbed
the attention of Columbia Records after a live radio performance of the song "Captain Jack" became popular in
the West Coast, prompting him to sign a new record deal with the company and release his second solo album, Piano Man,
which contained his first hit single of the same name. After releasing two more albums, Streetlife Serenade and
Turnstiles, Joel released his critical and commercial breakthrough album, The Stranger, in 1977; this album became
Columbia's best-selling release, selling over 10 million copies and spawning several hit singles, including
"Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)", "Just the Way You Are", and "Only The Good Die
Young". A year later, Joel's album 52nd Street was his first album to peak at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
After receiving slack from critics for being soft and releasing too many slow ballad songs, Joel released his seventh
studio album, Glass Houses, in an attempt to further establish himself as a rock and roll artist. His next album, The
Nylon Curtain, was released in 1981, and stemmed from a desire from Joel to create more lyrically and melodically
ambitious music. An Innocent Man, released in 1983, served as an homage to genres of music which Joel had grown up with
in the 1950s, such as Rhythm and Blues and doo-wop. In 1993, Joel released his twelfth and final solo album, The River
of Dreams. Joel has been in several relationships, including marriages to Elizabeth Weber Small, model Christie
Brinkley, and Katie Lee, all of whom he divorced from; he is currently married, since 2015, to Alexis Roderick, his 4th
spouse.

Collected Additional Masters (1985-2007) is a rarities compilation
originally released in 2011 as a bonus disc included in "Billy Joel – The Complete Albums Collection"
Bundle.
17 rare and non-album recordings, includes “Elvis Presley Boulevard” (B-side of the
“Allentown” single, 1982); the live cover version of the Beatles' “I'll Cry Instead”
(B-side of “An Innocent Man,” 1983); “House Of Blue Light” (B-side of “We Didn't
Start The Fire,” 1989); and “You Picked A Real Bad Time” (B-side of “All About Soul,”
1993). “You're Only Human (Second Wind)” and “The Night Is Still Young” are outtakes that
did not see light of day until 1985. Several tracks on the disc originated as Billy's contributions to various
multi-artist movie soundtracks, notably his covers of the Elvis Presley hits “Heartbreak Hotel” and
“All Shook Up,” both from 1992's Honeymoon In Vegas. Billy covered Lloyd Price's 1959 hit,
“Where Were You On Our Wedding Day,” for the 1999 movie, Runaway Bride, and Duke Ellington's “In
A Sentimental Mood” for A League Of Their Own in 1992. In 1982, Billy Joel contributed his original “Nobody
Knows But Me” to In Harmony II, a Columbia LP to benefit Sesame Street/Children's Television Workshop. Cover
tunes on Collected Additional Masters range from Bob Dylan's “To Make You Feel My Love” and Leonard
Cohen's “Light as the Breeze” to the Gerry Goffin-Carole King standard “Hey Girl” (Freddie
Scott, 1963). In 1991, Billy Joel contributed “When You Wish Upon A Star” to Columbia's Disney tribute
album, Simply Mad About The Mouse. And in 2001, Billy Joel sang the Beach Boys' “Don't Worry Baby”
at the Radio City Music Hall All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson concert. The disc closes with “All My Life,” a
2007 single which marked Billy's first newly-written song since 1993's River of Dreams.
